The History of Scouting
The Scout movement was founded by Robert Baden-Powell, a British Army officer. In August 1907, he held the first Scout camp on Brownsea Island in the south of England, gathering 20 boys to test ideas on character building, self-reliance, and outdoor survival.
Following the success of the camp, Baden-Powell published 'Scouting for Boys' in 1908. The book became an instant global phenomenon, leading to the rapid formation of Scout patrols and establishing core values like the Scout Promise and the motto 'Be Prepared'.
Today, Scouting has grown into the world's largest voluntary youth movement, empowering millions of young people across the globe to become active citizens and create positive change in their communities.
